Modernism Week Keynote: Martyn Lawrence Bullard and “Palm Springs”: A Modernist Paradise
Gracing the book cover of “Palm Springs: A Modernist Paradise” by Tim Street-Porter is the home of Palm Springs’ best known designer of this century, Martyn Lawrence Bullard. Consistently named a top designer in publications including Architectural Digest, Elle Décor and Hollywood Reporter, Martyn has hosted and appeared on TV programs in his native UK and the USA. Through his eponymous Los Angeles design firm, Martyn’s reach extends beyond his lines of furniture, textiles and accessories in the creation of dramatic luxury brand collections domestically and internationally.
As Modernism Week’s Keynote Speaker, Martyn will share what it’s like to design homes for celebrity clientele including the Kardashians, Cher and Tommy Hilfiger. Learn more about how he is inspired by Palm Springs and how he went about the gut renovation of Villa Grigio, his 1963 hideaway by architect James McNaughton.
Immediately following the presentation, Martyn will join a panel discussion with photographer and author Tim Street-Porter and additional designers whose work is highlighted in Street-Porters book. Mayer Rus, writer, editor and contributor to Architectural Digest, moderates. Trina Turk, noted fashion designer who wrote the foreword of the book, will emcee this event. Don’t miss this amazing opportunity to hear the personal stories of top design personalities whose work optimizes the Palm Springs lifestyle.
A limited number of books are available for pre-purchase, which includes a seat in the preferred section and front-of-the-line access to the book signing following the presentations at 4:30pm.
