Parent Diversity Night: Gender Revolution Screening & Discussion
What is Gender? Why does it matter? Please join us to view the National Geographic Film, GENDER REVOLUTION, narrated by Katie Couric followed by a Q/A led discussion. Diversity Night is hosted and presented by the Board Committee for Equity and Justice at Palm Valley School. "It used to be so simple," says Katie Couric at the beginning of the documentary GENDER REVOLUTION. "You were a boy or a girl. Girls wore pink. Boys wore blue." But it's increasingly obvious that for many people, it's not that easy. Couric crisscrosses the United States to interview experts and people located all along the gender spectrum: children born as boys living as girls, people who were born intersex and raised as the "wrong" gender, people who are gender fluid, people who are content with their body parts not matching their outward gender, and a whole host of others with a story to tell. Ultimately what we learn is that gender isn't as black-and-white (or as pink and blue) as many used to assume. (from Common Sense Media) Comprised of parents, faculty, administrators, and trustees, the committee for Equity and Justice at Palm Valley School endeavors to provide opportunities for our community to build a culture based on our core values of Diversity; Trust, Respect and Partnership; Inquiry and Exploration; and Responsibility to Self and Others. We are committed to ongoing education on diversity-related topics and invite you to join us for an evening of discussion and learning about Gender. Child care is not provided for this event, but we hope that you can join us to view this film and for some Q/A and discussion to follow.
