SUMMARY:Res Basel Art Exhibition At College of the Desert
DESCRIPTION:“Res Basel” is the title of the latest show at Walter N. Marks gallery. The art venue at College of The Desert ( Palm Desert CA) is fast becoming one of the best places to see new works by emerging fine artists in the West Coast region. Res Basel is a overview and showcase of some of the most important current work from Native\, Chicano\, Latinx and street artists who blur lines between the fine art world and the street art world(s). \nThese artists all entrenched in the communities they represent in their work signify how important culture and sub-culture has become in creating cultural shifts\, showing how their fine has come to define new art movements. Curated by artist Douglas Miles Sr. \n\n\n(@dmiles1_apache) \, \nThe Res Basel show is an exhibition / commentary on how cultural elitism in the art world often silences artists by avoiding\, or refusing to show artists of color within the fine art industrial complex world of galleries\, museums\, online and print media. Thus the need for shows like Res Basel is expeditionary. In addition to an overview and survey of these artists. Res Basel is also one of the first times artists from the East Coast and West Coast  are showing together\, in conversation with one another. Res Basel features photography\, digital art\, installations\, paintings and mixed media new works by \nShizu Saldamando\, Keo Xmen\,Mike Miller\, Douglas Miles Jr.\, Al Diáz\, Sienide\, Thomas BREEZE Marcus\, Rebekah Miles\,Indie 184\, Diety\, Carlos Ramirez\, Vyal One\, Dwayne Manuel\, Douglas Miles Sr. and more.

SUMMARY:Richard Baker: New Paintings Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Richard Baker\, a resident of La Quinta and Los Angeles\, is an artist who is known for his recognizable and distinctive paintings that reflect upon the beautiful and leisurely qualities of the California lifestyle we cherish. Baker’s canvases offer fresh and uplifting subject matter that demonstrate a skillful handling of form\, space\, and composition in portraying the cultivated landscapes of Palm Springs and “Other Desert Cities.” Characterized by his interest in light\, color\, shadow\, and geometry\, Baker portrays objects\, figures\, and scenery in a narrative way that needs no explanation. Having less to do with the conceptual concerns of the psyche\, Baker’s paintings have more to do with visual pleasures of light and color on the eye. \nThis exhibition\, “Richard Baker: New Paintings” is his seventh one-person exhibition at Skidmore Contemporary Art since 2015 when the gallery was located in Santa Monica’s Bergamot Station. Well-known for his long and successful career as a producer in film and television\, Baker balances his two demanding professions with equal passion and unique skill. His paintings are a celebration of the accessible motifs by which Baker continues to distinguish himself within the representational genre of contemporary Realism.

SUMMARY:Idyllwild Arts Presents a “Day of Healing Through Art” on March 21\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Idyllwild Arts Academy is offering an opportunity for self-expression\, creativity\, hope\, and healing at their “Day of Healing Through Art\,” a special event for students whose homes\, schools\, families\, and communities have been impacted by the recent devastating wildfires. The renowned arts school is welcoming students aged 13-17 to visit their beautiful mountaintop 205-acre campus to experience a day of art\, reflection\, and relaxation. Beginning at 10:30am with a Welcome Reception\, the daylong event consists of open mic performances\, lunch\, and art workshops\, including ballet & hip-hop dance classes\, a handmade bracelet workshop with the Fashion Department\, and a “What We See in You is Wonderful” cinematic storytelling workshop with the Film & Digital Media Department\, to name a few. The day ends with a dance concert beginning at 6.30pm. This event is free and open to the public\, but guests must register for a ticket in order to attend. \nIdyllwild Arts Academy\, recently featured on NPR’s “Education Insight” show\, has been ranked the #1 High School for the Arts in America by Niche\, the leading school ranking and review website. Idyllwild Arts Academy’s intimate size\, scale\, and deliberately secluded location provides a welcoming sanctuary for self-discovery. The intentionally-founded respite for creators has fostered thousands of artists united in the belief that art is the greatest teacher of humanity\, and that art itself is not the sole outcome of a creative life\, but rather the means to constant and necessary growth. \nThe event takes place on the school’s stunning Idyllwild campus (52500 Temecula Road #38\, Idyllwild\, CA 92549) and students can access the full schedule and register at https://idyllwildarts.org/event/a-day-of-healing-through-art/
