SUMMARY:Taste of Jalisco Festival
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the sights\, sounds\, and tastes of the state of Jalisco\, Mexico at the 7th Annual Taste of Jalisco Festival. This annual celebration honors the 26-year sister city relationship between Cathedral City and Tequila\, Jalisco (Mexico) through culture\, cuisine\, music\, and fashion. Admission to the festival is free and open to the public. \nThe weekend includes a family-friendly carnival\, artisan craft vendor market\, tequila tastings\, authentic Mexican cuisine\, a car show\, and daily entertainment. Festivities kick off Friday\, February 3 beginning at 4 p.m. and features the raising of the flags\, a proclamation reading from Cathedral City Mayor Rita Lamb\, followed by live entertainment and the opening of the carnival and tequila tasting garden. \nIn addition to a giant Ferris wheel offering views of the entire city and surrounding area\, the three-day carnival also will feature rides\, amusements\, and games for all ages on the festival lawn in front of City Hall. The weekend will also include a car show for auto enthusiasts with an amazing line up of high end and unique\, custom created vehicles. Admission to the car show is included with $10 purchase to the Fiesta Zone. Admission to the vendor market and carnival are free; Tickets for rides and games are additional fees with pre-sale tickets available through February 2. \nAttendees also will enjoy assorted crafts from a variety of artisans and a mix of gourmet food trucks. Those 21 and older can enjoy the full bar and tequila garden located inside the Fiesta Zone which features a high-end cocktail experience including tequila tastings. Admission to the Fiesta Zone is $10 each day and includes access to food trucks\, beer garden\, tequila bar\, car show\, lawn games\, and live entertainment. \nA highlight of the weekend will be entertainment from the Jalisco Community Stage featuring local and regional musical groups and live acts celebrating Mexican art and culture. The lineup includes multiple folklorico dance troupes; Las Tias\, Dreaming of You (Selena tribute)\, Outlaw Mariachi\, Corazon de Mana (Mana tribute) and a Saturday night headline performance by Grupo Control.

The 2-day event presents an array of free and educational programming from famed indigenous performers & scholars. Idyllwild Arts is an institution rooted in respect\, reverence\, and support for Native American people\, culture\, and art\, and is the only residential arts high school in the country to offer a Native American Arts Center led by a Native American Executive Director\, Shaliyah Ben (Diné). \n  \nOn October 8\, the festivities will kick off with a welcome reception at 2:00 p.m. on campus at William M. Lowman Concert Hall\, featuring light appetizers and beverages\, hosted by Idyllwild Arts President\, Pamela Jordan and Executive Director of the Native American Arts Center\, Shaliyah Ben (Diné) followed by a concert from Native American Music Award (NAMA)-winning pianist\, Connor Chee at 3:00 p.m. The Navajo pianist and composer made his Carnegie Hall debut at the age of 12. \nOn October 9\, the free day-long event runs from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and will thoughtfully celebrate the many contributions Indigenous People make to humanity. The day commences with a welcome by Sean Milanovich\, Ph.D.\, Vice President of the Native American Land Conservancy. Bird Singers from neighboring Cahuilla communities will share social songs to usher in the day designed to celebrate and uplift Indigeneity in the arts and Derrick Suwaima Davis (Hopi/Choctaw) and Ryon Polequaptewa (Hopi) will present “DANCING WITH THE UNIVERSE | Native Style\,” an original theatrical work. \nIAF Theatre will host Bethany Yellowtail (Northern Cheyenne)\, who will share a presentation about her work as one of the nation’s top fashion designers. A Native Foods Luncheon will be served on a first-come\, first-served basis while Indigenous R&B singer and TikTok sensation Tia Wood performs an outdoor concert. Wood is a 23-year-old Cree and Salish singer and creator who has garnered international attention for her unique talent. SUMMARY:Vietnam Veterans Stand Down
DESCRIPTION:It is 50 years since ground troops came home from the Vietnam War and 50 years since the military draft ended in America. According to Department of Defense estimates only about 1/3 of Vietnam and Vietnam Era Veterans are still living. The Vietnam Veterans of the Coachella Valley\, along with support from a number of Veterans Service organizations\, including\, but not limited to: Vietnam Veterans of America\, Inc.; the American Legion; Veterans of Foreign Wars; Disabled American Veterans; and the Coachella Valley Airborne Association are participating in this event. The Stand Down will take place in Desert Hot Springs at the Veterans of Foreign Wars\, Post #1534 and all veterans\, veterans’ families and all others who care are invited to this free event. There will be 60’s music\, barbeque\, and a Vietnam Era Huey-1 Medevac Helicopter as a back drop for this important event. An opening ceremony is scheduled for noon on Saturday\, October 21st and a closing ceremony is scheduled for noon on Sunday\, October 22nd. This will be an opportunity for veterans to celebrate that we are still here and as a remembrance to those who are not. It will be an opportunity to make new friends and possibly meet up with friends not seen since serving on active duty decades ago.
