SUMMARY:Yes\, and... Let's Improvise!
DESCRIPTION:In this fun\, immersive weeklong improvisational acting workshop\, students will learn both short form games like those seen on the tv show “Whose Line is it Anyway?” and long form improvisational acting techniques. We will culminate in an optional live interactive performance where we take suggestions from the audience and create scenes on the spot. Designed for both experienced and beginning actors and/or improvisers\, this light-hearted workshop will heighten your awareness of yourself\, your classmates\, and increase your spontaneity. Other techniques like listening\, using your imagination\, finding humor\, sharing focus\, collaborating\, embracing imperfection\, and taking risks beyond your comfort zone can be applied to your life. Spend a week at the stunning Idyllwild Arts campus and escape adulting responsibilities to create our own improvised world of “Yes\, and…” where we can create lasting memories and\, possibly\, friendships. \nTakes place 6/23/25 to 6/27/25.

DESCRIPTION:On October 14\, famed arts school Idyllwild Arts presents a daylong celebration for Indigenous Peoples Day. Now in its fourth year\, this free event honors the significant contributions made by Indigenous people through arts\, and culture. The event is presented by the School’s Native American Arts Center led by a Native American Executive Director\, Shaliyah Ben (Diné) and Idyllwild Arts respectfully acknowledges the Qawishpa Cahuillangnah (also known as Cahuilla Band of Indians) on whose land the Idyllwild Arts community resides. \nThe event will be headlined by the Delbert Anderson Quartet (DAQ)\, led by Diné jazz trumpet artist\, Delbert Anderson\, known for their improvised sounds of Diné songs\, blending them with jazz\, funk\, and hip-hop. Delbert Anderson recently performed at the Kennedy Center and has gained national recognition with recent feature coverage in The New York Times\, SF Gate and NPR\, to name a few. Throughout the day\, the special public program features Native American guest artists\, scholars\, and performers who will share a vast array of knowledge based on traditional philosophies. \nFrom 9am to 4pm\, Idyllwild Arts campus (52500 Temecula Road\, Idyllwild\, CA) will host an array of programming from educational presentations\, artist studio visits and a glass blowing demonstration to a free outdoor luncheon\, featuring Indigenous foods along with a high-energy DJ set by Idyllwild Arts Academy alum Kino Benally (Diné)\, also known as DJ Béeso. From 6pm to 9pm\, Harvey House (54420 S. Circle Drive\, Idyllwild\, CA) will host musical performances by Delbert Anderson Quartet and flute music by Randy Kemp of Artificial Red. SUMMARY:Idyllwild Arts “Art in Society’s 7th Annual Symposium” Focuses on The Importance of Water
DESCRIPTION:On Monday\, April 15 Idyllwild Arts showcases their daylong Art in Society’s 7th Annual Symposium.  Free and open to the public\, the symposium will take place at the school’s stunning campus from 9am to 5pm (52500 Temecula Road #38\, Idyllwild\, CA). Illustrating the Citizen Artists that Idyllwild Arts educates\, this year’s event features collaborative works from all departments in which Arts and Academics will intertwine their perspectives on the historical\, literary and scientific significance of water\, from its impact on our lives to its powerful creative presence in all forms of art. \nThe topic is the intersectionality of all the different elements of water\, forming a larger tapestry based on what students learned from a fundraising campaign they undertook in fall 2023 with non-profit Gravity Water\, who support climate resilience and clean water access in developing nations. \nThe event will feature guest Lula Washington of the Lula Washington Dance Theater with dances based on portraying the rituals and movement created all over the world around water\, including rain dances. Representatives of Gravity Water will feature a presentation in honor of Art in Society’s first global campaign\, and the school’s support of a clean water filtration system for children and families in Vietnam. \nSeeking to ignite important dialogue\, there will be 6 student-focused works presented as collaborations between different departments These include exploring how water relates to both music and math\, an interactive installation intertwining film and environmental studies\, a performative activity representing the complex relationship between an individual community and its collection of water\, as well as visual works that symbolize the intrinsic link between art and water\, highlighting how both are essential components of human existence. For more information\, visit: https://idyllwildarts.org/event/art-in-society-symposium-2/

SUMMARY:Idyllwild Arts Presents Native American Arts Festival Week on June 18 to June 23\, 2023
DESCRIPTION:Idyllwild Arts Foundation presents its annual Native American Arts Festival Week at the Idyllwild Arts campus (52500 Temecula Rd\, Idyllwild-Pine Cove\, CA 92549) from Sunday\, June 18 to Friday\, June 23\, 2023. The week-long event\, which has run each summer for over two decades\, is designed to enhance and enrich the Idyllwild Arts Summer Program with Native American arts-based programming including an invitational exhibition\, demonstrations\, Native food tastings and the Michael Kabotie Lecture Series. All festival week events are free and open to the public. \nIdyllwild Arts is an institution rooted in respect\, reverence\, and support for Native American people and is the only residential arts high school in the country to offer a Native American Arts program. This year’s Native American Arts Festival is again being led by Native American Executive Director\, Shaliyah Ben (Diné)\, whose vision will bring to life this year’s theme\, an examination and celebration of Native humor\, comedy and joy. After the past few difficult years\, humor is an important tool to help heal within while also coping with and accepting new realities. The unique week of programming seeks to inspire internal reflection and laughter while also igniting important conversations about topics that shape Indigenous communities by bringing together scientific\, intuitive\, and trickster voices for a balanced and provocative learning experience. \nHighlights of this year’s festival include the Opening Day Celebration “Welcoming Home the Birds\,” which is a full day of cultural programming and sharing of Cahuilla and Serrano Bird Singing. Attendees are invited to taste California Native Foods presented by Willie Pink (Luiseño). There will be a plethora of artist vendors and hands-on activities will be provided by Tony Soares\, Lily Clarke (Cahuilla) and Lorene Sisquoc (Cahuilla/Apache) with the Mother Earth Clan. Curated by Meranda Roberts (Numu/Xicana)\, this year’s invitational exhibition: Still We Smile: Humor as Correction and Joy”\, opens on Monday June 19 and will feature a range of artistic mediums. The week of programming will culminate with The Good Medicine Comedy Showcase on the evening of Friday\, June 23. \nFor the full schedule\, visit https://idyllwildarts.org/nativeamericanarts

SUMMARY:Bullying: A Community Symposium on Prevention and Intervention Strategies
DESCRIPTION:The City of Palm Springs Human Rights Commission is pleased to announce it will host a free community forum and discussion – “Bullying: A Community Symposium on Prevention and Intervention Strategies” – to coincide with the start of National Bullying Prevention Month here in Palm Springs.  The event will be held on Saturday\, October 1\, 2022\, from 10:00 am to noon\, at the Palm Springs Convention Center. \nBullying is one of the most common forms of violence\, affecting millions of American children and adolescents annually.  Three million students are absent each month because they feel unsafe at school and 80\,000 students are physically attacked in secondary schools in the United States every month.  Nearly 42% of youth have been bullied online\, often multiple times.  Tragically\, there is a strong association between bullying and depression\, anxiety\, and suicide-related behaviors. \nThe keynote speaker will be Judy French\, Coordinator\, National Bullying Prevention Center – Los Angeles.  The Prevention Center actively leads social change to prevent childhood bullying\, so that all youth are safe and supported in their schools\, communities and online. \nA panel of subject matter experts\, including representatives from Boo2Bullying.org\, Queer Works\, the Palm Springs Unified School District\, the Boys and Girls Club of Palm Springs\, and the Palm Springs Police Department will share their insights on this important topic.  The panel will discuss how parents\, youth\, community leaders\, educators\, and others can help to prevent\, report\, mitigate bullying\, as well as support victims of bullying.  Several other community organizations will be available to provide resources and discuss how their work support the Palm Springs community in creating a world without bullying.  Complimentary light refreshments will also be available.  For more information about this inaugural event\, please contact Jay Virata\, Director\, Community & Economic Development Department\, General Information: (760) 323-8259\, or visit https://www.palmspringsca.gov/services/event-calendar/-curm-10/-cury-2022.
