DESCRIPTION:Registration is now open for Jazz Girls Day at Idyllwild Arts Academy —taking place from 9am to 4pm on Sunday\, March 2\, 2025 — an inspiring traveling masterclass that was founded by Dr. Colleen Clark in 2021 and is generously supported through her position at the University of South Carolina. Featuring masterclasses\, jam sessions and a concert\, the daylong clinic is free and open to all female identifying improvising musicians\, middle school to high school aged (10-18 years old). \nSince Jazz is historically a male-dominated genre\, Jazz Girls Day is an important way to help bridge gender disparity for women in jazz through encouraging girls to learn jazz while also building a supportive community. Clark’s initiative aims to inspire students across the country and — while it’s already landed in many states from Arizona to Idaho — this will be the first time it lands in California amidst her ongoing vision to help cohost a USC Jazz Girls Day event in all 50 states by 2030. The future for women in jazz is important and Clark’s program puts a spotlight on the disparity while repairing it. \nThere is no audition\, and a healthy variety of experience levels are welcome! All participants can expect to learn and be challenged in a supportive environment. It is an open invitation to middle and high school girls for a day of masterclasses\, connection\, concert and jam session. DESCRIPTION:Gill Landry is a two-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter\, multi- instrumentalist\, and visual artist. A Louisiana native\, Gill got his start as a busker\, living out of Volkswagens between the streets of New Orleans and the Pacific Northwest. After immersing himself in the rich tapestry of American folk music\, in 2004\, he met the Nashville outfit Old Crow Medicine Show\, with whom he worked from their van-and-trailer days to Grammy wins and their induction into the Grand Ole Opry. In 2015\, he parted ways with the band\, dedicating himself entirely to his own writing and solo creative pursuits. \nJon Langford is a founding member of the legendary UK punk band The Mekons. In the years since\, Jon has become one of most prolific and hardest working performers in the Americana movement. releasing 14 albums (mostly on the acclaimed Bloodshot label)\, several EPs\, and countless singles. \nPalm Springs resident Russ Tolman was the head wrangler of Paisley Underground guitarslingers True West. Since 1986\, Russ has released nine critically acclaimed solo albums and toured the US and Europe countless times. His latest album is Goodbye El Dorado. This will be his second local show in 2025. He is also host of The Russ Tolman Goodtime Hour on KDRT\, which airs every Friday at 5pm and is available as a podcast on all the popular platforms.

DESCRIPTION:Idyllwild Arts Academy is offering an opportunity for self-expression\, creativity\, hope\, and healing at their “Day of Healing Through Art\,” a special event for students whose homes\, schools\, families\, and communities have been impacted by the recent devastating wildfires. The renowned arts school is welcoming students aged 13-17 to visit their beautiful mountaintop 205-acre campus to experience a day of art\, reflection\, and relaxation. Beginning at 10:30am with a Welcome Reception\, the daylong event consists of open mic performances\, lunch\, and art workshops\, including ballet & hip-hop dance classes\, a handmade bracelet workshop with the Fashion Department\, and a “What We See in You is Wonderful” cinematic storytelling workshop with the Film & Digital Media Department\, to name a few. The day ends with a dance concert beginning at 6.30pm. This event is free and open to the public\, but guests must register for a ticket in order to attend. \nIdyllwild Arts Academy\, recently featured on NPR’s “Education Insight” show\, has been ranked the #1 High School for the Arts in America by Niche\, the leading school ranking and review website. Idyllwild Arts Academy’s intimate size\, scale\, and deliberately secluded location provides a welcoming sanctuary for self-discovery.
