With Santa’s encouragement\, Buddy embarks on an eventful journey through New York City in search of his biological family. \nPalm Canyon Theatre’s production of this seasonal musical features 30 talented local performers ranging in age from 2 to 62+\, including Scott Clinkscales as Buddy\, David Brooks as Santa\, Jessica Lenz as Jovie\, Eric Stein-Steele as Walter Hobbs\, Tim Steele as Mr. Greenway\, and many others. The joyful songs and colorful sets are sure to ring in the holiday season and bring out everyone’s inner elf. \nELF is directed and costumed by Derik Shopinski with choreography by Alison Logan\, and music direction by Jaci Davis. Set design is by Toby Griffin\, with lighting design by JW Layne\, and projections by Nick Edwards. \nThe book is adapted by Bob Martin and Thomas Meehan from the\n2003 film\, with a score by Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin. DESCRIPTION:St. Margaret’s Friends of Music will present the Choir of Clare College\, Cambridge University\, in concert Sunday\, December 11\, 7pm at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in Palm Desert. \nThe program\, entitled “O magnum mysterium\,” surveys more than five centuries of beloved choral repertoire appropriate for the Advent and Christmas seasons including settings of the text O magnum mysterium (O great mystery) by Spanish composer Cristóbal Morales (16th century) and more contemporary settings by Francis Poulenc and Morten Lauridsen. Also featured on the program will be carols from seventeenth-century France and Germany plus seasonal works by Herbert Howells\, John Tavener\, John Rutter\, Will Todd and Lucy Walker. \nSince the founding of a mixed voice choir in 1972\, the Choir of Clare College\, Cambridge has gained an international reputation as one of the world’s leading university choirs. In addition to its primary function of leading services three times a week in the College chapel\, the Choir keeps an active schedule recording\, broadcasting\, and performing. Recent engagements include concerts with the Orchestra of the Age of the Enlightenment\, Britten Sinfonia\, London Philharmonic Orchestra\, Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra and Orquesta Sinfonia Nacional de Mexico\, as well as recitals in Barcelona’s Palau de Musica\, El Escorial Madrid\, Palacio de Bellas Artes Mexico City\, St John’s Smith Square London\, and across the USA and Canada. \nThe Choir has produced an impressive discography of more than forty recordings. DESCRIPTION:In honor of Black History Month\, Idyllwild Arts Academy announces its annual Black History jazz concert\, which is free and open to the public. The concert and will take place at the school’s stunning campus on February 17 from 7:00pm to 9pm (Lowman Concert Hall\, 52500 Temecula Road #38\, Idyllwild\, CA). \nThe event is the brainchild of Idyllwild Arts iconic Jazz Program founder\, Dr. Marshall Hawkins — who has played bass with many legends including The Miles Davis Quintet – as well as Dr. Daniel Bassin (IA Director of Orchestra) and will be hosted by the Diversity\, Equity\, Inclusion and Belonging Board. \nThe theme of the event will be the “Replacement of the Drum\,” reflecting both the hardships and triumphs black Americans have experienced in the United States when drums\, a principal form of communication in Africa\, were taken away during slavery. Africans in America had to fashion different types of drums and percussion instruments from whatever materials they could gather\, profoundly reinventing and reshaping music for generations to come. \nThe concert will feature Dr. Marshall Hawkins Seahawk Modern Jazz Orchestra (MOJO)\, which he formed in 2002\, joining the school’s own Jazz and Classical music students\, faculty and alumni along with a plethora of professional performers for this highly anticipated event\, including jazz artist Sherry Williams\, jazz musician Bob Boss\, vocalist Yve Evans\, Nigerian artist Najite and Latin percussionist Ray Gonzales. \nListeners will be taken on a journey from Africa where music began with the drum through the new world and into modern music\, showcasing the unifying power of music. \nFor more information visit: https://idyllwildarts.org/event/black-history-concert/
