SUMMARY:PALM SPRINGS MODERN COMMITTEE OFFERS RARE TOURS OF THE HOME OF DESERT MODERNISM ARCHITECT WILLIAM CODY
DESCRIPTION:See the Palm Springs home of desert modernist architect William Cody that served as an inspiration for the way he helped shape the look of the Coachella Valley on Feb. 25 during Modernism Week. Thirty-minute tours are still available starting at 12:30 p.m. through 4 p.m. \nPalm Springs Modern Committee (PS ModCom) in conjunction with TTK Represents offers this rare opportunity to see Cody’s architectural “think tank” built in 1952. Peter Blake Gallery of Laguna Beach has curated the interior of the home featuring all California Light and Space artists including Larry Bell\, Peter Alexander\, and De Wain Valentine interspersed next to three Desert X alumni artists —Lita Albuquerque\, Gisele Colon\, and Phillip K. Smith\, \n“This is the definitive light and space house\,” says Keith Markovitz of TTK Represents\, which has been representing architecturally significant homes in the desert since 2008. “It’s a totally transparent and translucent sort of interconnecting glass corridor house by Cody\, and probably one of the most dynamic post-war modern homes.” \nFrom nearly every vantage point in the house\, there are sight lines that blur the indoor-outdoor experience. The exhibition of art and collectible design accentuate the architecture of the home to create a unique immersive experience for the viewer. \nCody came to the desert in 1945 when he was 29 to make improvements to Nellie Coffman’s Desert Inn. By 1948\, Cody moved his practice to the desert where he left his imprint with such architectural gems as the Del Marcos Hotel\, the Thunderbird Country Club\, the Palm Springs Library\, and Eldorado in Indian Wells. \nIn a separate PS ModCom event during Modernism Week\, you can see Cody’s extraordinary work when you visit St. Theresa School where students showcase models of Palm Springs architectural landmarks. The free event occurs Feb. 21 and Feb. 23 from 1-3 p.m. each day. \nCody’s work is cited by the American Institute of Architects for significant buildings in Palm Springs\, Phoenix\, and Beverly Hills. After suffering a stroke at 57\, Cody died five years later in 1978. \nFor ticket information on the Cody house and to view the complete list of PS ModCom events\, visit psmodcom.org.

SUMMARY:Art Exhibition Monumentally Fragile: Catherine Ruane\, David Tomb\, and Holly Wong
DESCRIPTION:College of the Desert is pleased to announce that a new exhibition of large-scale paper works entitled “Monumentally Fragile” is on display now through March 28 at the Marks Art Center. \nThere will also be a closing reception and artists’ walk through on Friday\, March 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. \nCurated by Ray Beldner\, artist and Director of Startup Curatorial\, the exhibit brings together large works on paper by Catherine Ruane (Morongo Valley\, CA)\, David Tomb (Marin\, CA)\, and Holly Wong (San Francisco\, CA). \nThe title of the show\, “Monumentally Fragile\,” refers both to the scale the artists employ in making their work\, and to the fragility of their material\, which is paper. It also refers to the precariousness of their subject matter\, which is often nature: trees\, birds\, water—even our “life force.” They each use multiple smaller paper pieces to build their compositions and\, in the process of installation\, map out\, occupy\, and define space. \nPaper\, which is both a humble and mutable material\, is a perfect metaphor for the tenuous state of the world which these artists find themselves in. Working passionately and insistently\, they ask us to consider the beauty of this world and what we may be close to losing. \nThe exhibit is open to the public Tuesday through Friday\, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. \nThe Walter N. Marks Center for the Arts (MAC) is a nonprofit facility that supports arts education and enriches the cultural lives of our students\, faculty\, and community. The MAC is at 43500 Monterey Ave.\, Palm Desert. The gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday\, and by appointment. \nFor more information\, please contact the Marks Art Center at (760) 776-7278 or visit them on Instagram @marksartcenter. \n  \n  \n  \nExhibition dates 1/28/2023-3/24/2023

SUMMARY:Kristin Korb
DESCRIPTION:Jazzville presents bassist/vocalist Kristin Korb with her brilliant quartet.\n\n\nJazzville brings Kristin Korb and her stellar quartet to Palm Springs. There are few bassists who can sing and there are even fewer who can do it so very well. Kristin is one of those artists who make you forget that she is playing the bass when you hear her voice… \nWhen Kristin launched her recording career in 1996\, she ceded bass duties to her mentor and hero\, Ray Brown. Since then\, across five albums including What’s Your Story?\, she has accompanied herself\, maintaining a distinctly Brown-tinged bass style. \nAs a singer\, the Montana-born Korb seems of the same school as Tierney Sutton (who hails from Nebraska)\, her sunny wide-openness enticingly shaded by a faraway hint of dark clouds. And though Korb tends to be vocally looser than Sutton\, they also share an ability to sidle up to a song\, size it up and\, with vaguely cynical cautiousness\, nail its emotional heart. \nInspired by the days when music was romantic and made you want to dance\, Kristin and her quartet embody that spirit and carry their audiences along for the ride. \nJazzville at the Cascade Lounge offers state-of-the-art sound and lighting with pristine acoustics and plush seating. \nThings to know before you go: \n• Must be 21 or over. \n• Doors open at 6pm with a 7pm showtime. \n• Drinks served throughout the show. \n• No refunds except for COVID-related shutdown. \n• Free covered parking in attached garage. \nWe cannot take cash at the door (casino policy). Line-up subject to change without notice. \nBoth the casino and lounge are non-smoking environments. \nFood is not served in the Cascade Lounge but can be brought in from any of the casino restaurants. We do have a full bar with no drink minimums.

SUMMARY:Sandro Iocolano Headlines Caliente Comedy
DESCRIPTION:Don’t miss the hilarious Sandro Iocolano headline Caliente Comedy at Agua Caliente Casino Palm Springs!\n\n\nWith a background in self-loathing and inane observations\, Sandro makes comedy look good in comparison to the voices in his head. Born in Boston\, raised in Florida\, Sandro was born into a retirement community to immigrant Italian parents and a German Shepard\, he grew up only speaking Italian till he was 5. He learned English from cereal boxes and Twinkie wrappers. \nIn an attempt to find more work his father\, a plumber moved his family to Florida where he learned how to sweat profusely from his forehead. He enrolled in Pharmacy School after high school\, but soon found that he would rather tell jokes than push pills\, but often called one. \nSandro has been performing since he was a little kid old enough to embarrass his parents. Throughout his life he has acted and just always enjoyed making those around him laugh. It’s a treat to embarrass your friends and family. He often loves being the center of attention\, but only at parties and never at funerals. \nSandro would give you the shirt off of his back if you needed it and he didn’t want it anymore. Sarcastic\, witty and quick Sandro finds himself at home being a smart-ass and finding the unconventional opinion or spin on any given topic. He loves all forms of comedy. Called “off-center and quirky” by one of his first comedy mentors\, the description stuck. Sandro has been scene on HBO’s Project Green Light\, NBC\, Aspen Comedy Festival\, and performs comedy all over the country and as of recently\, Italy. He is a member of an Improv Comedy Troupe and is a regular at The Comedy Store and performs regularly at The Improvs all across the country. He currently lives in Los Angeles in a state of cloudiness. \nCaliente Comedy features some of the biggest touring comics from all around the world. Each show is 90 minutes complete with openers and a headlining act. Every Friday night you can plan on laughing until your face hurts with well known comics from Comedy Central\, Netflix\, HBO\, SNL\, Conan\, America’s Got Talent\, Showtime and more. \nCaliente Comedy at the Cascade Lounge offers state-of-the-art sound and lighting with pristine acoustics and plush seating. \n \nTicket Perks: \n*All tickets include FREE and early admission to Agua Caliente Casino Palm Springs “Cascade Nights” nightclub beginning at 10pm inside the Cascade Lounge after Comedy ends. \n*All tickets include a FREE gift card for 50% OFF Desert Blues Revival Shows on Wednesdays inside the Cascade Lounge. \n*FREE VALET PARKING \n*NO DRINK MINIMUM \n \nThings to know before you go: \n• Must be 21 or over. \n• Doors open at 7pm with a 8pm showtime. \n• Take out food menu available for dining inside the show. \n• Table-side cocktail service available so you don’t miss out on any laughs. \n• No refunds except for COVID-related shutdown. \n• FREE VALET and self-park covered parking in attached garage. \n• Tickets are non-refundable. \n• Both the casino and lounge are non-smoking environments. \n \nFor Box Office\, Questions\, and Group Inquiries Call (951) 494-0116
