SUMMARY:Strada Swing
DESCRIPTION:Live in Palm Springs!\n\n\nBased in sunny Los Angeles California\, Strada Swing is a jazz band with a little French twist. Their music will take you on a musical journey to the romantic city of Paris\, with cheerful vocal melodies infused with the captivating rhythm of French gypsy jazz. \n \nInspired by the vibrant and energetic style of gypsy jazz\, popularized by French guitarist Django Reinhardt and the Hot Club of France in the 1930s\, Strada Swing combines vocal jazz with acoustic instruments accordion\, guitar to create an elegant\, cheerful\, and lively sound. Their performances take listeners on a musical journey through jazz standards from the 1930s-60s\, as well as popular and lesser-known songs in French by composers like Cole Porter\, Charles Trenet\, and Michel Legrand. \n \nStrada Swing began their musical journey in 2016 at the Strada Cafe in Berkeley\, California\, where they dreamed of starting a band that captured all the aspects of jazz that they loved: the lively and energetic rhythms of 1930s gypsy jazz Parisian cafes\, the melodic and emotive qualities of vocal jazz\, the freedom and creativity of improvisation\, and the intricate and nuanced sound of piano trios. With these inspirations in mind\, they created Strada Swing and have become a beloved fixture in the local jazz scene in Los Angeles. \n \n \n🎠 Welcome to Carousel at the Cascade Lounge! SUMMARY:Displacement\, Stories from Section 14
DESCRIPTION:This innovative theatre reading will address the many complex layers in the history of Section 14\, a one-square-mile tract in downtown Palm Springs. In the mid-60’s the homes of Latino\, Black\, and other family homes were bulldozed and burned to make way for development\, without compensation or housing options for displaced residents. The Palm Springs City Council has publicly discussed paying reparations to survivors and descendants\, which currently remain under negotiations.  \nThis play was devised by a creative committee of local creatives\, actors\, and researchers led by Green Room Theatre Company’s executive artistic director\, David Catanzarite. This new work will be performed for the first time in a series of staged readings. Tickets are available at https://grtccv.org/section-14/.  \nAbout Green Room Theatre Company: \nThe award-winning Green Room Theatre Company is now in its 15th season. This highly successful 501 (c)(3) organization has provided theatre to new performers and audiences throughout the Coachella Valley\, building bridges between communities and generations. The company is committed to bringing theatre to both ends of the Valley\, and to underserved communities. \nFor more information\, call (442) 215-7039 or visit www.grtccv.org.
