SUMMARY:Vietnam Veterans Stand Down
DESCRIPTION:It is 50 years since ground troops came home from the Vietnam War and 50 years since the military draft ended in America. According to Department of Defense estimates only about 1/3 of Vietnam and Vietnam Era Veterans are still living. The Vietnam Veterans of the Coachella Valley\, along with support from a number of Veterans Service organizations\, including\, but not limited to: Vietnam Veterans of America\, Inc.; the American Legion; Veterans of Foreign Wars; Disabled American Veterans; and the Coachella Valley Airborne Association are participating in this event. The Stand Down will take place in Desert Hot Springs at the Veterans of Foreign Wars\, Post #1534 and all veterans\, veterans’ families and all others who care are invited to this free event. There will be 60’s music\, barbeque\, and a Vietnam Era Huey-1 Medevac Helicopter as a back drop for this important event. An opening ceremony is scheduled for noon on Saturday\, October 21st and a closing ceremony is scheduled for noon on Sunday\, October 22nd. This will be an opportunity for veterans to celebrate that we are still here and as a remembrance to those who are not. It will be an opportunity to make new friends and possibly meet up with friends not seen since serving on active duty decades ago.

Also a skilled commercial designer\, his work is truly inspirational\, and can be seen in hotels worldwide.\nKeith Collins is a renowned artist in many mediums. His one of a kind hand made tapestries incorporate art and texture into unique\, colorful and multidimensional works of art. Also a skilled painter and sculptor\, his precise marriage of color and composition are unparalleled in both the art and design communities.\nSolo the Artist\, a visual expressionist storyteller\, seamlessly merges modern abstract symbols and images with heartfelt messages. His artistic messages of faith\, love\, empowerment and wisdom prompt discussion and admiration upon being deciphered.\nRuss Phillips is a local artist living his dream. After a successful corporate career\, he returned to his artistic roots (he studied at the prestigious Art Center in Pasadena)\, and his work is now displayed globally. His canvases are a mix of motion and containment (self described as “tight”) – the result of thoughtful planning of color\, balance\, and scale.
