The students are excited to show their work to the desert audience during a reception that will be held at Melissa Morgan Fine Art Gallery (73-660 El Paseo\, Palm Desert)\, a prestigious contemporary gallery\, on Friday\, May 3 from 4-7 p.m. At 6pm\, songwriting students from Idyllwild Arts Academy will perform their original compositions at a free concert in the gallery’s sculpture garden down the block. \nThe exhibition\, which is free and open to the public\, will also be on view on Saturday\, May 4 from 10am to 5pm and will feature the year’s best visual works from the pioneering arts high school that has been changing lives through the transformative power of art for more than 70 years. With its popularity increasing over the years\, the exhibition now takes up the main section of the gallery with an expanded breadth and quantity of art works. \nWith the extraordinary generosity of Melissa Morgan Fine Art\, all of the artwork in the exhibition will be for sale\, including a selection of unframed prints\, for buyers to take home. 100% of the proceeds will go to the artist and to the Visual Arts Department at Idyllwild Arts. This free event takes place on the school’s stunning campus (52500 Temecula Road\, Idyllwild)\, providing visitors with an opportunity to learn about the school and different programs on offer\, which include dance\, music\, fashion\, film and visual arts. Student work will be showcased along with access to lectures\, demonstration classes\, and teacher introductions. The day will culminate in a student production of the musical\, CABARET followed by a late afternoon reception and auction. \nAs a featured part of the event\, Arts Enterprise Laboratory (AEL) senior student Devika Aggarwal will unveil her thought-provoking\, interactive and meticulously-engineered art installation “Outside In\,” a sphere-like\, geodesic dome structure. Made of burnt wood and steel\, the structure of “Outside In\,” features a door through which one can enter to view 35 original drawings contained within\, which represent a collection of real people’s stories and experiences. DESCRIPTION:Nathan James Band comes to Palm Springs!\n\n\nNever one to follow convention\, and always one to think for himself\, Nathan James has created a musical identity with his homemade instruments and self taught skills. When you catch Nathan pickin’ and scratchin’ on his own invention of washboard guitar\, while fronting his band the ‘Rhythm Scratchers’\, you are sure to be moved and impressed with a truly original sound. Together they draw from a deep well of influences in the American roots rhythm and blues genres.  \nMembers of the band were first call musicians for the late blues legend James Harman. They also regularly back up blues legends Kim Wilson of the Fabulous Thunderbirds\, as well as Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers. Special guest drummer for this show is Stephen Hodges who spent many years touring with gospel legend Mavis Staples in her band.   \n \nDesert Blues Revival at the Cascade Lounge offers state-of-the-art sound and lighting with pristine acoustics and plush seating. \nThings to know before you go: \n• Must be 21 or over. \n• Doors open at 6pm with a 7pm showtime. \n• Drinks served throughout the show. \n• No refunds except for COVID-related shutdown. \n• Free covered parking in attached garage. \nWe cannot take cash at the door (casino policy). We can accept credit cards at the door if seats are available. \nOur shows can sell out\, so pick your seats today!
