As a Blues and Soul musician\, his art is centered around his captivating electric guitar\, taking one on a journey emotionally and spiritually.\nIn 2011\, he released his first solo\, acoustic album: “Loving Antics”\, followed up by “On the low” and “For the First Time”. A young Darnell was ambitious for bigger and better things\, eventually leading to the start of blues rock band: Porcelain Hill.\nDarnell\, at the helm of Porcelain Hill\, would go on to tour 9 different countries\, all booked and setup by himself\, as well as write and release 2 more albums\, and an EP. During this period he would really cut his teeth\, opening up for/sharing the stage with more established artists such as Missing Persons\, Iron Butterfly\, Sister Sledge\, Dru Hill\, John Illsley\, The Wailers\, Ana Popovic\, Walter Trout\, Robert Jon & The Wreck\, Bernie Marsden and more! During this time\, Big D became a Vintage Guitars Endorser\, receiving the honor of having several signature/custom guitars with the company\, as well as being featured on several of their publications.\n\nIn 2019\, he booked a 6 month UK tour for Porcelain Hill\, and led the band to victory in several Battle of the Bands despite having bass player lineup changes. DESCRIPTION:Jazzville presents the Sean Hicke Quartet for a sublime evening of jazz in Palm Springs.\n\n\nDo yourself an inspirational favor and come hear Sean Hicke play bass with his equally\, exceptionally talented band mates. Sean released my favorite jazz album of 2019 titled Sunflower Sutra\, and I instantly wanted to book him at Jazzville. But he had moved to Ohio. Well\, I’m from Ohio so I knew he’d be back in California at some point\, and the time has come. \nSean wrote and arranged all eight compositions on Sunflower Sutra\, a sublime album which he also produced. One of the factors that makes Sunflower Sutra notable is the skill and musical empathy displayed by Hicke and his fresh-faced band mates. They include guitarist Louis Valenzuela\, vibraphonist Matt DiBiase and drummer Julien Cantelm. \nMany young musicians in their 20s would approach making their debut albums as a chance to show off and play as many notes as possible. Not Hicke\, who displays a level of artistic maturity beyond his years. DESCRIPTION:In ongoing efforts to educate and inspire the public\, Palm Springs’ Historic Site Preservation Board presents its ninth annual PRESERVATION MATTERS symposium\, April 29-30\, at the Palm Springs Convention Center. \n“The City of Palm Springs is recognized as an international destination for exceptional architecture and design\,” says Palm Springs Mayor Grace Garner. “As a community committed to preserving the unique historic character of Palm Springs\, we are proud to present this preservation event and recognize the important work of our Historic Site Preservation Board.” \nGarner will welcome attendees to the symposium and Palm Springs Mayor Pro Tem Jeffrey Bernstein will moderate a panel discussion on the economics of Architectural and Cultural Tourism. \nThe free two-day event offers an engaging program lineup focusing on the roles of water and tourism in shaping the history\, development\, and built environment of greater Palm Springs. \nFollowing the symposium’s first day\, attendees can take one of 12 home tours ranging from a stored modern ranch in Palm Springs’ Little Tuscany neighborhood to a pair of homes designed by William Krisel. Attendees must pre-register for Day 1 of the symposium to take a home tour. \n“Year after year\, the Palm Springs Preservation Matters symposium continues to educate\, entertain and inspire as an important part of the preservation community\, adds Courtney Newman\, co-founder of the Palm Springs Modern Committee (PS ModCom). “As a prior presenter\, I enjoy seeing the variety of thoughtful topics and look forward to learning more as the symposium evolves.” \nPoised to celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2024\, PS ModCom is a non-profit organization dedicated to appreciating and preserving Desert Modern architecture and design. The visual arts reception will be held at Melissa Morgan Fine Art Gallery (73-660 El Paseo\, Palm Desert\, CA 92260)\, a prestigious contemporary gallery in the heart of El Paseo\, on Friday\, May 5 from 4-7 p.m. Following the reception\, gallery visitors can walk a block to the gallery’s outdoor sculpture garden for the student songwriting concert featuring original compositions from rock\, pop\, and alternative to R&B and progressive soul. \n\nThe exhibition\, which is free and open to the public\, will also be on view on Saturday\, May 6 from 10am to 5pm and will feature the year’s best visual works from the pioneering arts high school that has been changing lives through the transformative power of art for more than 70 years. Curated by Visual Arts Department Chair Linda Santana along with the Visual Arts faculty\, the exhibition showcases over 50 works of art from 35 students\, which were chosen as standout examples of the high level of creativity and technical accomplishment from artists in grades 9-12. With the extraordinary generosity of Melissa Morgan Fine Art\, all of the artwork in the exhibition will be for sale\, with 100% of the proceeds going to the artist and to the Visual Arts Department at Idyllwild Arts.
