SUMMARY:Displacement\, Stories from Section 14
DESCRIPTION:This innovative theatre reading will address the many complex layers in the history of Section 14\, a one-square-mile tract in downtown Palm Springs. In the mid-60’s the homes of Latino\, Black\, and other family homes were bulldozed and burned to make way for development\, without compensation or housing options for displaced residents. The Palm Springs City Council has publicly discussed paying reparations to survivors and descendants\, which currently remain under negotiations.  \nThis play was devised by a creative committee of local creatives\, actors\, and researchers led by Green Room Theatre Company’s executive artistic director\, David Catanzarite. This new work will be performed for the first time in a series of staged readings. Tickets are available at https://grtccv.org/section-14/.  \nAbout Green Room Theatre Company: \nThe award-winning Green Room Theatre Company is now in its 15th season. This highly successful 501 (c)(3) organization has provided theatre to new performers and audiences throughout the Coachella Valley\, building bridges between communities and generations. The company is committed to bringing theatre to both ends of the Valley\, and to underserved communities. \nFor more information\, call (442) 215-7039 or visit www.grtccv.org.
