MAD.KAT Gallery Presents: PLAYFUL, a 16 Artist Group Exhibition Opening Reception

MAD.KAT Gallery is very excited to announce PLAYFUL, a group show of 16 artists who show the whimsical side of art. Mediums on exhibition will include sculpture, painting, photography, mixed media, textile art, etchings, and much more.

Participating artists are:

Mitsushige Nishiwaki  (www.mitsushigenishiwaki.jp)  Tokyo-based copperplate etching artist brings a playful twist to American and European themes.

Edvarda Braanaas — (edvarda.store) This Oslo, Norway painter draws heavily on German Expressionism in her slightly off-kilter, humorous oil paintings.

Paul Bond — (www.paulbondart.com) Costa Rica based magical realist Bond’s art lives in the spaces between dreaming and reality.

Allois — German-born American artist Allois is known for her dream-like, fantasy surrealism, which often blends Renaissance style with contemporary painting techniques. Her work is been collected by Hollywood celebrities such as Josh Whedon, Seth Green, and Joanna Cassidy

Penrider — (www.penrider.com) This Madrid, Spain artist has gained over 25,000 followers on Instagram with his whimsical and wildly detailed pencil drawings.

Brady Willmott — (www.concussiongallery) Creating imagery that inspires the imagination, coupled with classic painting techniques, Brady Willmott’s unique twist on pop surrealism leaves a lasting impression.

Cheryl Walsh — (cherylwalsh.art) Walsh is known for her fantastical underwater portraits

Kalynn Campbell — (www.kalynncampbell.com) Kalynn was one of the original forces behind the Low Brow movement (now known as Pop Surrealism). His work has been seen in museums and been collected by celebrities such as Nicolas Cage, Rocker Eric Burdon, Pink, and Simpson’s voice man Harry Shearer.

Brock DeBoer — (www.houseofdeboer.com) Brock is ceramic sculptor utilizing porcelain, historical motifs and surface treatments to re-contextualize everyday objects, items from his past, and objects of popular culture.

Gustavo Ramirez Cruz — (www.gustavoramirezcruz.com) Columbian born, Berlin based Gustavo creates colorful, paper-mache animals from another universe that have been shown in galleries and museums across Europe.

Peg Grady — (www.peggradyart.com) Originally from Queens, New York, embroiderist Peg is the creator of the wry Smoking Bird series.

Rima Day (www.rimadayart.com) uses thread to create artwork that is inspired by nature and the human body.

Irene Krimizi — (www.irenekrimizi.com) Athens, Greece sculptor and ceramicist Irene brings a new spin to classically inspired pottery.

Sandra Marschner — (www.katapult-film.com) Don’t call them “voodoo dolls.” The whimsical little figures that Berlin based Sandra creates made from found natural objects may have magical powers.

Jeffrey Tover — (www.jeffreytover.com) is a highly collectable abstract artist based in Northern California.

MJ dos Santos — this Long Beach based newcomer’s talented anime-influenced illustrations belie her young age.
