Oscar, a Southern California native born on Sunset Blvd, displayed extraordinary talent at a young age, picking up a 6-string guitar by the age of 6 or 7. Raised in a Mexican family with a rich history of musical and artistic prowess, he developed a deep love for blues and rock’n’roll, inspired by legends like Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, B.B. King, and Elvis Presley.
Although Oscar had dreams of achieving musical greatness and becoming a recording artist, he made the selfless decision to enlist in the US Army, serving for nearly 7 years and attaining the rank of Sergeant. During his time in Africa, he stumbled upon a worldwide singing competition called “Operation Rising Star,” showcasing talent in the Armed Forces. Oscar’s remarkable talent propelled him to the final 12 contestants.
Following an honorable discharge from the service in 2016, Oscar had a clear vision to return to his roots as a blues artist and singer-songwriter. He formed several bands in the Los Angeles area, achieving success with “Calling Cadence,” a singer-songwriting duo with Rae Cole, another talented Southern California native. Their all-analog album, released in 2022 under Hi-Res Records, based in Sherman Oaks, California, showcased their commitment to authentic, unadulterated music reminiscent of the golden age of the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s.
As a dedicated blues artist, Oscar aims to keep the blues alive and ignite a blues revival akin to Stevie Ray Vaughan’s impact in the 1980s. Influenced by blues greats like Charlie Patton, Robert Johnson, Lead Belly, B.B. King, Albert King, Freddie King, Buddy Guy, Elmore James, Sonny Boy Williamson, Albert Collins, Hendrix, Stevie Ray, and his musical families, the Sanchez and Bugarins, Oscar is rapidly emerging as an up-and-coming blues artist and guitarist in the LA area.
Driven by a mission to spread the message of the blues to the masses, Oscar and his bands have extensively toured the United States, blazing a new trail for these cherished American art forms in the 21st century. Catch Oscar’s captivating performances in LA while you can, as he continues to deliver authentic and progressive blues that resonate deeply with audiences.
